Debbie’s Story: HOW Bringing 100% Every Day Helped Avoid Spinal Fusion Surgery

Debbie’s story is a perfect example of what it means to bring 100%. Debbie had been suffering with crippling chronic back pain for several years and when she first came to me, she’d exhausted all other options of resolving it. Her doctors and consultants had told her that spinal fusion surgery was “inevitable” but Debbie saw this as a last resort because it would limit her mobility and so she felt it would impact on independence and her ability to do some of the things she loved, like gardening.


Debby committed fully to the structured plan we created together: training three times a week and following a targeted stretching routine. Her determination to follow the programme, even when progress felt slow, was remarkable.


Today, Debbie is nearly pain-free and doing things she once thought impossible. When we started working together she could only do one mow one length of her lawn before she had to stop because of pain - now she can mow her entire lawn without stopping.


Not only that, but she’s able to do multiple sets of chin-ups and squats with weight on her back, something she couldn’t do even before her back pain started!


Debbie’s commitment didn’t just help her avoid surgery; it transformed her life.

Joel’s Challenge: Balancing Lifestyle Changes And a Busy Schedule

Joel’s journey highlights the importance of being open about challenges and working through them together. Joel runs his own successful business and supports his wife’s business, running a busy nursery. When we started working together, part of Joel’s personalised plan was to increase his activity levels outside of the gym, aiming for 8k-10k steps each day.


Joel felt that hitting 8,000-10,000 steps a day felt impossible - he barely had time to eat lunch between meeting and his workload as it was. Joel didn’t hide that he was finding it a challenge; instead, he was upfront about his concerns, and together, we created a plan to make it work.


We broke the target into manageable chunks: short walks before and after work, pacing during phone calls, and choosing to walk rather than drive for errands and increased the amount each week.


These small, consistent efforts added up, and allowed Joel to see how he could find ways to get his steps in. His willingness to trust the process and tackle challenges head-on made all the difference. Today, Joel’s progress is undeniable - his openness and commitment to working through challenges are the foundation of his success.

Elliott’s Story: Part-Time Player to National Captain

Elliott is the perfect example of what’s possible when belief meets hard work. When we started working together, he was a part-time player for the Basingstoke Bisons. But Elliott had a focus and drive to be the best hockey player he could be. He embraced every aspect of his training, consistently pushing himself to improve. As the results came in, something amazing happened - his belief in himself grew. Elliott went from being a regular player to team captain, eventually representing Team GB.


What made Elliott’s journey remarkable wasn’t just his physical progress. It was his mindset. He believed in his potential, and that belief grew stronger with every achievement.

Joel’s Second Challenge: Staying on Track Despite Life’s Detours

Joel’s journey abroad is a prime example. Partway through his transformation, personal circumstances meant he needed to spend three months in another country.


Joel had already made fantastic progress in his weight loss journey, but this sudden shift in his environment posed a massive challenge. Away from the PSL gym, immersed in a different culture with unfamiliar food options, it would have been easy to press pause. Many would have.


But Joel didn’t want to lose momentum when he’d come so far. Instead, we worked together to design a training programme that could be done with minimal equipment - bodyweight exercises, a bench, and dumbbells. We also adapted his nutrition to fit the local food culture while staying aligned with his goals.


Joel stuck to the plan with unwavering commitment, and the results speak for themselves. Joel weighed 130kg when he started with us, and is now 112kg and focused on his ultimate goal.


His determination turned what could have been a setback into an opportunity for growth - proving to himself that he has what it takes to sustain his weight loss once he reaches his goal.

Having trained NFL players, elite athletes, and high-profile professionals at some of the world’s top-tier facilities, James combines exceptional expertise with a passion for helping clients achieve transformative results. Now, he brings the same premium service to his home town with Pinnacle Strength Lab, a private gym and personal training facility based in Medstead, near Alton, Hampshire. James specialises in sustainable fat loss, building strength, injury rehabilitation and strength and conditioning for athletic performance, offering bespoke coaching tailored to every client’s goals.
